Fall fashion trends have only just been introduced and we’re already looking forward to the upcoming spring/summer fashion trends coming. You don’t want to be left behind! Kicking off each season’s fashion trends, New York Fashion Week is always hosting the first fashion week of the season and relaying important information about upcoming trends to designers. There are already a lot of indications that the next spring/summer 2023 season is going to be pretty good – as London Fashion Week draws near! And even if you don’t wear designer clothes, brands in the straight-to-market segment watch fashion week live and also make use of what they learn to help guide their style choices for their upcoming collections too.

Designers are often influenced by the cultures around them so you’ll always see a crossover of threads between various design collections. In recent years, fashion trends have been getting constant updates and coming in new waves. But this time around, many trends that have proven themselves over the past few seasons are being developed even further. Keeping up with the latest fashion is going to be a little bit easier this time around.

FASHION TRENDS 2023

The fashion industry is currently transitioning to Milan Fashion Week, which will showcase the latest spring and summer fashion trends. We’ve been looking out for the key fashion trends for next year, and while designers maintained their own personal style signatures. There are some common threads in this fashion show and we expect that these will filter down through other fashion weeks and straight-to-market collections, and end up in your closet.

So here are 3 of the fashion trends from New York Fashion Week that everyone is talking about.

1. PURPLE HUES

One of the biggest fashion color trends for 2022 will give us a nod of reassurance as we move into 2023. Lilac has been totally everywhere, from casual separates to special occasion pieces and it looks like every spectrum of purple is here to stay.

Pastel has always been the most popular color of fashion week, but this season pastel was joined by richer and deeper hues at a Ulla Johnson show. These are especially stylish with lighter tones, complementing purple combinations in a fashionable way. Tory Burch and Adam Lippes offered the palest interpretations of this new color. It is soft to the point where people sometimes mistake it for cream. The color has a ton of different variations, yet it looks best in its tried and true basic palette.

There were plenty of casual separates on offer, but lilac was also given a sophisticated makeover with the inclusion of cocktail dresses from brands such as Pamella Roland and Dennis Basso. it’s worth considering as we head into the next wedding season.

2. TASSEL DETAILS

One trend from 2022 that we think will continue into 2023 is tassel detailing. One of this summer’s favorite trends was the fully-founded dress and party pieces for a look that might be difficult to resist. With summer around the corner, it’s important to opt for a trend that doesn’t work well with items such as winter coats. This is where fringe clothing comes in; it should be noticeable and shouldn’t clash with other pieces. The highlights of these types of clothes are usually the tassels sewn across them.

Fashion designers have mixed their thoughts on fringe up to date and have chosen to do it in different ways. The likes of PatBo, Bronx & Banco chose for sweeping full fringing, while Proenza Schouler and Ulla Johnston opted for a softer, more relaxed version. One of the most obvious bohemian fashion trends that you can expect to see in 2023 is dresses with tassel detailing. But these upcoming clothes for women don’t have the bohemian vibe of yesteryear- some livelier, more glam pieces have thrown everything different into the discussion.

Antonia Krakowski, a style set favorite, explains why this is the look everyone should be wearing next year:

“Add some drama to your spring look with tassels and fringing. From lightweight fringe details on skirts and knits to bold dresses à la flapper style – this trend is as diverse as you want it to be.”

3. LACE AND LASER CUTTING

Lace detailing is perfect for warm weather- the lighter fabric, cut-out detail, and open neck all make it ideal for sitting outside in the spring breeze. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a rise in people choosing more handmade detailing, which has been combined with new technologies. This combination celebrates traditional craftsmanship, with exquisite lace and intricate laser-cutting.

Lace fabric might have been the basis for this 2023 fashion trend but different interpretations were seen from brand to brand. For example, Naeem Khan showed off a cape, while Proenza Schouler and Bibhu Mohapatra opted for skirts.

With various shades and color schemes available, these pieces are perfect for any occasion and look even more fashionable at night. An ideal investment for what to wear to a wedding or engagement party next year.

4. FROTHY AND FEATHERY

2023 fashion trends implied that romance is the way of the future, with tactile and frothy tulle & feathers making their presence felt in a selection of New York fashion styles during the 8-day event.

From voluminous tulle skirts at Siriano and Molly Goddard to flirty hemlines, adding drama to dresses at Herrera. This trend is well on the way to being the main event for evening-style. With the light, soft fabric that falls in gentle peaks, unlike stiffer meringue fillings, it will make you feel like you’re dancing into a summer evening. Equally luxurious, feather detailing was used to accentuate thigh-skimming hems and maxi dresses. A ’20s style feathered jacket was highlighted. You should wear it in a dress next summer!

Trendsetters are taking full advantage of how various colors can come together in a unified way, with pastel and bold hues both playing their part.

5. RAYS OF SUNSHINE

Nothing signifies the arrival of summertime like the sun peeking through with New York Fashion Week feeling soaked in sunlight despite being rained on constantly. The fashion trends in 2023 will bring out an abundance of yellow pieces as we welcome back the rising temperatures – there’s nothing like a warming sun, right?

The bright and cheerful style might not be for everyone, but it is certain to give everyone, especially when the day is super gloomy.

If you’re wondering what color suits you, yellow is also an option. Just think about what look and style you want to go for and it’ll be as good a choice as any. One of the trickiest colors to work with is copper, so experiment with different shades. I like to pair it with a yellow bag and wear it away from my face.

Antonia’s verdict: “I cannot get enough of these shades. A must-have for this season to brighten up your hot days in style.” We’re keen to see some new developments this season and think this shade will have you feeling cheerful too! Some of the best color combinations are those that are neutral in tone. Beige and cream are some good examples, making them perfect for a grown-up take on the trend.

6. SPORTS LUXE

The idea of ‘no pain, no gain’ certainly won’t apply to ‘Sports Luxe’ – the fashion trend of 2023. It’ll look great and you can feel comfortable while wearing it.

Although this look may be ‘relaxed’ in the fashion sense, it is far from sloppy. It’s still more polished than wearing old leggings with a sweatshirt. The silhouettes might be sporty, but the fabrics are luxurious. Tibi pairs them effortlessly with matching skirts made of silk sweatshirts to provide their fashion fans with the best of both worlds. At Fendi, they went all out ’90s-style with a mix of embellished slip skirts teamed up with sporty jackets. They also had some of the season’s most-wanted sweatshirts.

While conventional sportswear made brief appearances on the runway, it was the more bold looks elsewhere that really got our heart rate up! To up-style sportswear staples and give them a fashion-forward refresh, add heels to silky tracksuit trousers or cargo pants for a more elevated finish

Athleisure is now one of the most popular fashion categories. What will people be wearing in 2023? To avoid looking like you just came from the gym, choose one sporty piece to wear but don’t drown yourself in it. You can create a high-low look by wearing a sweatshirt over a dress, or pairing sneakers with an otherwise sophisticated outfit.

7. BUBBLE HEMS

The voluminous bubble hem keeps on coming back every few years, and although it’s unlikely to become a firm favorite like an A-line midi skirt, a bubble skirt still makes for a fun addition to the trends in fashion.

We saw a lot of different styles on the runway. The Prom season is upon us, so it’s the perfect occasion to stock up on some new dresses. From full-length maxi dresses and mini dresses, this line of clothes was all about maximizing drama. Bibhu Mohapatra (who never fails to impress with his glamorous creations) and Naeem Khan showcased a range of colors that catered to everything One example of this is Proenza Schouler, which has made its larger-than-life presence in the fashion world a little less subtle.

A harder silhouette to wear, as always, it’s all about proportions. You want to make sure the line of your clothes is following the contours of your body so that you’re wearing this look, rather than making it look the other way around. If you want to highlight your waist, wear a fitted, tucked-in top and if you opt for a dress, choose between outfits that show your leg or arms.

8. RUFFLES

One of the most impressive trends we saw featured ruffles, big and small. Ruffles were seen on numerous runways, sashaying down the catwalk. Fashion designers are turning back to glamour with their clothing creations. Volume is continually the main element in evening and day fashion for the year 2023. A trend that has been huge for the past few seasons, from big skirts to big sleeves, the explosion of ruffles feels like an extension of a desire to be more present and noticeable, in other words, it is your time to let your style shine.

Ruffles across skirts give the outfit a party-ready feel when they’re positioned vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. They add an element of decadence no matter how they’re pinned. When it comes to evening wear, Halpern & Badgley Mischka offers statement styles from bold, wide ruffles to elegant, delicate ruffled details. You can also find this feminine detail at Carolina Herrera and in the daringly dramatic daywear at Adam Lippes.
